Bonnie Mason Works

I paint the things I love. The mountains in autumn, sunlight streaming through a window, old barns and home places, things that touch my heart. Oil paints are my favorite medium. Their unmatched color capabilities and rich beauty make them my go to choice when I paint on canvas. My goal is not a photographic representation but a joyful and painterly expression of atmosphere and light, that feeling of “being there”- while pushing color to the limit. Whether climbing the stairs to my studio or setting up my easel in a field I’m grateful for the opportunity to explore and express life through painting.

Bonnie Mason grew up exploring the outdoors in Southwest Virginia. Her family would often go for long drives and end up hiking in the woods. Her parents would identify plants and trees and point out animal tracks as they taught the family to appreciate the awesomeness of God's creation. Hiking with her family is still one of her favorite ways to spend a Saturday and many of the places they visit are inspiration for her landscape paintings.

Bonnie enjoys gardening and loves to paint the flowers she grows along with teapots, antique table linens and old blue mason jars handed down through the family. Like most artists she grew up drawing everything and at the age of twelve she used her mother's oil paints to create her first "real" painting and soon began entering shows and winning awards. Bonnie went on to study art at the university level and receive a Bachelor's degree in art but it was not until recently that she's been able to spend most of her days painting.
